Setting Out Engineering Apprenticeship
Setting out engineers use construction drawings, technology and precision instruments to pinpoint and mark structural features above and below ground before construction work begins.
They use markers to indicate where structures are going to be installed, including access roads, foundations, gas, electricity and water facilities, and drainage systems. They ensure that site teams adhere to markers & complete work to Clients’ specification. The apprenticeship lasts 3 years (SCQF level 6).
Key Duties:
Assist the Engineer with all Setting Out functions on site
Learn all aspects of the Setting out Engineer role
Work with groundworks & civils squads to understand construction operations
Learn to use the latest surveying equipment
Understand & follow site health & safety procedures
Analyse & interpret technical drawings and
Ensure technical compliance & the safety of all operational activities
Maintain relevant site records and as-built drawings
Ensure compliance with contractual requirements & Company's Quality Management System
Provide accurate records & measurement details to support the Quantity Surveyor to prepare monthly valuations
The candidate must have the following skills & qualities:
A mature & confident approach
Experience using Office 365 (and capable of picking up & applying, new ideas & concepts quickly)
Organisation skills & able to use own initiative
Numerical skills (a strong grasp of maths/design & technology subjects are essential)
Excellent time management & attendance record
Communication & customer service skills
Problem solving skills & able to multi task
Enjoy working in a team environment
Ability to read and interpret technical data with a strong attention to detail
Ability to work in a high-pressure environment
Fit & healthy this role involves carrying equipment and working outdoors in all weathers
Driving licence (or plans to work towards this)
To apply for this post, you’ll need: Minimum Nat 5 Maths, English (Design & Manufacture/Technology qualifications are advantageous) or a Foundation Apprenticeship qualification in Civil Engineering or NC qualification plus a good all-round education.
