Apprentice Road Surfacing & Civil Engineering Operatives

Apprentice Road Surfacing/Civils Operatives (2-year Site based SVQ – Construction & Civil Engineering Operations)

During your MA with Duncan-Pryde Contractors/Realm Construction, you'll learn about hard landscaping, reinstating excavations, tools & equipment operation (ride on roller, abrasive wheels, vibrating plate), road construction, service detection, traffic management, streetworks and all aspects of road surfacing & civil engineering.

Our site apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn; construction work isn’t an easy option but it’s hugely rewarding with many different career paths.

Our strategy is to train, develop & invest in a strong, skilled team - our former apprentices help our experienced team to train new apprentices (and help to recruit them too)!

We asked our site managers "What makes a great apprentice?"  It's pretty clear that successful apprentices share many, if not all of the following characteristics:

Practical & enjoys manual work

Commitment to role & attendance

Reliable & trustworthy

Hard work ethic

Keen to learn new skills

Physically fit

Punctual

Able to plan & manage own time

Enthusiastic & self-motivated

Problem solving skills

Enjoys working outdoors (sunshine & snow!)

Uses own initiative

Technical/analytical skills

Good team player

Interpersonal skills

IT literate

Communication skills

Driving licence (or planning to work towards it)

Think that sounds like you?  If so, we want to hear from you!

We want to know about you, your skills & why you'd make a fantastic apprentice.

Your cover letter is an opportunity to showcase your practical skills, reliability and suitability for the role (feel free to include photos of you building/making something at home/at college/school/at work, or describe key learning from a Foundation Apprenticeship, Construction Academy or Construction course - show us your potential!).  Our Apprenticeships attract a large volume of applications each year, so we recommend that you take some time to make your application stand out from the crowd.

Successful applicants will proceed to the next stage for group selection exercises to test literacy, maths & spatial awareness aptitude.

If successful the next step is pre-employment training (to prepare you for safe site work) or onsite work placement assessment (you don't need to have site experience to apply - you just need to show us what you can do during the work placement)!

Lastly a 1:1 interview, then a job offer if you're successful!
